"Orange and Maroon Effect Day"

In a show of support for the students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni and friends of Virginia Tech, students at colleges across the country are calling April 20, 2007, "Orange and Maroon Effect Day."  "Orange and Maroon Effect Day" is named after an athletic promotion similar to Texas A&M University's "Maroon Out." According to the Virginia Tech Athletic Department, the official school colors are "Chicago Maroon" and "Burnt Orange."

The effort began on-line. One of the largest groups on Facebook was created by Texas A&M graduate student Tommy Aichers, who attended Virginia Tech as an undergraduate.

Texas A&M University at Galveston will be flying the Virginia Tech flag over the campus in observance of the tragedy, and a moment of silence will be observed for the victims at Saturday's Muster ceremony to be held in the gym.
