Texas A&M University at Galveston Students Commissioned

       Galveston, Texas – Two Texas A&M University at Galveston students. Malcolm Boucher and Ryan Vechan, were commissioned in to the United States Naval Reserve as Merchant Marine Reservist.

About Ensign Malcolm Boucher

      Boucher, born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, enrolled at Texas A&M University at Galveston after graduating from Vidor High School in 2003. Ensign Boucher received a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation with a Minor in Maritime Administration.

      Throughout his studies at Texas A&M University at Galveston, Boucher was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He served as a Company Commander after receiving the rank of Cadet Lieutenant Commander in his junior year. Boucher was accepted into the Merchant Marine Reserve NROTC program in the fall semester of his sophomore year.

      Upon receiving his commission, Ensign Boucher will serve in the United States Naval Reserve as a Merchant Marine Reservist. Ensign Boucher hopes to apply the knowledge gained from his studies and from the Reserve Officer Training Corps to a successful career in the United States Merchant Marine.

About Ensign Ryan Vechan

Born in Midland, Texas, Vechan enrolled at Texas A&M University at Galveston after graduating from Westwood High School in Austin, Texas.  He received a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation and his USCG Third Mates License of any gross tonnage at Commencement on Saturday

      While attending TAMUG, Vechan served as the Physical Training Officer, Bravo Company Executive Officer, Bravo Company Commanding Officer, and Corps Executive Officer.  He served a representative on Cadet Court for two years.  Vechan worked as a Celestial Navigation teacher’s assistant, helping to teach lab as well as tutor.

      Upon his commissioning, Ensign Vechan will serve in the United States Naval Reserve as a Merchant Marine Reservist.  He plans to obtain a job that will help provide the opportunity to upgrade his license and pursue more responsibility.
