The Center for Bioacoustics (CFB) is a part of Texas A&M University and the Texas A&M University System and as such shares a dedication to the development and dissemination of knowledge in many fields. The CFB aspires to preeminence in education, research, and service through the science and technology of bioacoustics. In support of this mission, the CFB carries on an active research program, develops and teaches undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education ourses both on and off the Texas A&M Campus. Additionally, the CFB provides service by maintaining a growing and accessible systematic collection of digital recordings of natural and man-made sounds. The CFB's collection is available to researchers throughout the world. |

Society for Marine Mammalogy
The home page of Society for Marine Mammalogy contains a list of current officers, constitution and bylaws, information about Marine Mammal Science - the journal, a membership application form, recent issues of the SMM Newsletter, Presidential letters and, of particular interest to students, the most recent version of 'Strategies for Pursuing a Career in Marine Mammal Science'. The site will also hold notices regarding the Twelfth Biennial Conference on the Biology of Marine Mammals that will be held in Monaco in January 1998. |

Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network
The TMMSN is a well-organized extensive network of researchers, conservationists, and volunteers who respond to marine mammal and sea turtle strandings, bring animals back to the Galveston facility for necropsy if dead and evaluation and rehabilitation if alive. The TMMSN has obtained data on more than 1,000 dead marine mammals, mostly bottlenose dolphins. It's personnel have rehabilitated or attempted to rehabilitate several dolphins per year, with round-the-clock supervision, feeding, and medical assistance. |

Congressional Marine Mammal Reports
These summaries are part of a regular daily update I prepare for congressional staff on fisheries and marine mammal public policy issues as I see them - a selection of issues which I view as having potential public policy implications for the U.S. Congress. My role is to provide objective, non-partisan, unbiased public policy analysis for Congress. Thus, it has been useful to pass this summary by various experts in the field to solicit input about areas where my objectivity could be improved, where someone's bias shows through and should be adjusted, and where there are simply other issues of which I am unaware. New items are added to the summary every morning, and items are removed after they have been on the summary for about a month. Items in the summary are modified as I receive new information. |
