The Galapagos sea lions were undisturbed by this spectacle. The red glow on the caldera is actually the light emitted from the magma pool at the floor of the caldera, reflected off the steam clouds. The glow in the foreground is a reflection off the water in a small lagoon by our camp. Earlier in the night, we had seen two magma jets propelling molten rocks above the rim of the caldera. Later - after climbing to the rim, we established that there were two active jets, which were located about half way down into the caldera. Based on our distance from the crater rim (about 10 km line-of-sight), we estimated the jets to be about 800 m tall!
